SK Hynix Semiconductor Inc. (SK Hynix Semiconductor Inc., Hangul: SK하이닉스) is a South Korean electronics company and one of the top 20 semiconductor manufacturers in the world. Hynix was founded in 1983 under the name of Hyundai Electronics Industry Co., Ltd. In the 80s and 90s, it focused on selling DRAM, and then SDRAM. In 2001, the TFT LCD business was sold at a price of 650 million U.S. dollars. In the same year, the world's first 128MB graphics DDR SDRAM was developed. In early 2012, South Korea’s third-largest chaebol, SK Group, announced the acquisition of 21.05% of Hynix’s shares to take over this large memory manufacturer.
